Hyggly is built to be as distraction free as possible. Many features you'll find in other editors are left out on purpose, simply because they pull you out of the story. This app is here to help you write.
- No toolbars in the way and no right-click menus.
- The interface hides away while you type, so only your words remain.
- No spell check to break the flow. A dedicated editing mode will come later.
- Your work saves as you type, so the sentence you're in the middle of is never at risk.

A novel is more than a list of chapters. Hyggly lets you group, park and reorder the pieces until the shape feels right.
- Group chapters into acts and drag them into a new order.
- Snooze a chapter you're stuck on; it leaves the list but stays safe.
- A recycle bin holds anything you remove, so a deletion is never final.

When the draft is done, send it out in the format you need, with a cover that looks right on an e-reader.
- Export clean Markdown, an EPUB, or a portable ZIP of the whole project.
- EPUB exports keep your chapter headings, scene breaks and cover as you set them up.
- Add a cover and a scene-break image right in the book's info panel.

Writing Record shows how a text changed over time, but it can't prove that every word was typed by a person. Treat it as supporting evidence, not certainty.
Writing Record is off by default, switched on per book, and everything stays on your computer. There's also a private timestamps section for when you need to show a draft existed on a given date. Only a fingerprint of the file ever leaves your machine, never your text, titles or file names.

Questions writers ask
Do I need an internet connection?
Hardly ever. Writing, organising, backing up and exporting all work offline. Hyggly checks your licence online occasionally (see Pricing), and the optional external timestamps feature is off by default.
What happens to my book if I stop using Hyggly?
Nothing. Your book is already a folder of plain text files on your computer. It stays exactly where it is, and you can open the text files with any other program.
Can I open my chapters in another editor?
Yes. Each chapter is a Markdown file, so you can edit it in any text editor, and Hyggly will pick up the change next time you open the book.
Where are my files kept?
In the folder you chose when you created the book. Inside, chapters holds one file per chapter, and book-data holds your book's details and statistics.
Is there a Mac or Linux version?
Not yet. Hyggly runs on Windows for now, with other platforms a possibility later.
How much will it cost?
Your first 30 days are free, and you don't need to enter payment details. When you take out an annual licence, you get another 30 days free before the first charge. The normal price is US$30 a year. Our first 100 customers in 2026 get the founders price of US$10 a year, locked in for as long as they subscribe, with code FOUNDER at checkout. The offer ends at 100 customers or on 31 December 2026, whichever comes first. Prices exclude sales tax (VAT), which depends on your location.
